Abstract

Hypertension is a degenerative disease that often occurs in the elderly. Hypertension is also one of the causes of death that often occurs in the elderly. Causes of hypertension include age, genetics, lifestyle, high cholesterol, smoking, lack of exercise. The prevalence of elderly people suffering from hypertension is increasing, this can be caused by, among other things, the lack of understanding among elderly people about hypertension and its prevention. The aim of this community service activity is to increase public knowledge by socializing hypertension. The method used in community service is a question and answer lecture and using power point media, community service activities are carried out in Katapang village, the activity time is 1 month, the number of participants is 25 people consisting of elderly people. The implementation of this community service is divided into pre-test stages, providing material, post-test and health checks by checking blood pressure. The results in community service activities are based on analysis of paired t test calculations that there is an effect of providing health education on knowledge before and after health education is carried out with an alpha value of 0.000 (<0.005). The recommendation in this community service activity is that it is hoped that health workers can play a role in providing information or counseling about hypertension to the elderly or elderly families on an ongoing basis. For the elderly and elderly families, it is hoped that they can maintain a healthy lifestyle so that health status can improve.
