EDUKASI DAN PEMERIKSAAN MATA UNTUK PENCEGAHAN GANGGUAN PENGLIHATAN DI LABUAN BAJO
Abstract
Visual impairment due to refractive errors remains a public health problem in remote areas such as Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. Limited access to eye health services and low public awareness of the importance of routine eye examinations result in many undetected and untreated cases. This community service program aimed to increase awareness and provide eye health examination services and corrective spectacles to the community in Labuan Bajo. The methods included eye health education through educational videos and interactive sessions, visual acuity screening using Snellen charts, and refractive error examination using autorefractors and retinoscopes. The activities were carried out on February 22–24, 2024, at ST. Ignatius Loyola Senior High School and Golo Kempo Village, with a total of 857 participants. The results showed that most participants had refractive errors, especially myopia, caused by excessive gadget use and lack of routine eye examinations. Participants in need were provided with corrective spectacles according to their prescription. In conclusion, this program successfully improved public knowledge about eye health and provided access to refraction services and corrective spectacles for the community in Labuan Bajo.
