Abstract

Visual impairment and refractive errors remain public health problems that often go undetected, especially at the primary health facility level such as Pos Bindu. Lack of socialization and access to eye health services results in low public awareness of the importance of early detection. This community service program aimed to improve public knowledge and awareness of vision health through education and screening in commemoration of World Sight Day. The methods included interactive eye health education, visual acuity examination using Snellen charts, objective and subjective refraction examinations using autorefractometers and trial lens sets, as well as distribution of corrective and reading spectacles. The activities were conducted on October 28, 2023, at Pos Bindu Dewi Sartika 7C, Pasirjati Village, Bandung City, with 100 participants consisting of children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. The results showed a prevalence of refractive errors of 45%, with dominance in the productive age group and the elderly. A total of 40 pairs of corrective spectacles and 25 pairs of reading spectacles were distributed to participants in need. Participants showed high enthusiasm and improved understanding of eye health. In conclusion, this program successfully increased public awareness and provided beneficial eye health interventions.
