One type of refractive disorder that requires special examination techniques is astigmatism, which can cause blurred or shadowy vision at all distances. This community service activity aims to conduct early detection and examination of astigmatism disorders using the cross cylinder method in the RT 001/RW 022 Pondok Ungu Permai area, Bekasi, West Java Province. The cross cylinder method was chosen because it has high accuracy in determining subjective cylinders in patients with astigmatism. The examination was carried out on 103 clients of various ages. The results of the activity showed that of the 103 clients examined, the refractive disorders found with the largest proportion were hypermetropia (22.33%), followed by astigmatism (20.81%), and myopia (10.19%). In addition, 93 clients (90.29%) were diagnosed with presbyopia, and 3 clients (2.91%) were suspected of having organic disorders in the form of cataracts. These findings indicate that although the main focus of the activity is on astigmatism, the proportion of other refractive disorders and organic disorders is also significant and needs attention. This activity provides real benefits for the community in recognizing their vision conditions and encouraging further follow-up examinations to eye health facilities. It is hoped that similar activities can continue to be carried out sustainably in order to improve the level of community eye health.
Nuraisah Nuraisah, Arief witjaksono, Nurwidianto nurwidianto, Irfan Abdussalam, Gina Mardiatul Karimah, Firman Saepulloh ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://abdimasada.stikesdhb.ac.id/index.php/AM/article/view/132 Fri, 23 May 2025 00:00:00 SE Asia Standard Time PENINGKATAN AKSES KESEHATAN MATA DENGAN PROOGRAM PEMERIKSAAN REFRAKSI DAN PEMBERIAN ALAT BANTU REHABILITASI PENGLIHATAN KACAMATA DI KELURAHAN WAE KELAMBU, KECAMATAN KOMODO PROVINSI NUSA TENGGARA TIMUR https://abdimasada.stikesdhb.ac.id/index.php/AM/article/view/133
Visual impairment due to refractive errors, such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia, is a common health problem in many communities. In Wae Kelambu Village, Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, access to eye examinations and vision rehabilitation aids is limited. This study aims to improve community access to eye health services through a refractive examination program and provision of glasses. This activity was conducted to identify the prevalence of refractive errors and provide interventions in the form of glasses as vision aids. The program was implemented in the Wae Kelambu Village area involving 777 participants, with the results of the refractive examination showing that 340 people had emetropia, 164 people had myopia, 31 people had hypermetropia, 8 people had astigmatism myopia, and 100 people had presbyopia. A total of 277 people received glasses, while 288 people did not, most of whom had normal vision or refractive errors that could not be treated with glasses. The results of this activity indicate the importance of increasing community awareness of the importance of routine eye examinations, as well as the need for further efforts to improve access to eye health services in remote areas. Based on these results, it is recommended to expand eye health education and service programs in remote areas to improve the quality of life of the community through prevention and proper management of refractive errors.
Motris Pamungkas, Felisiana nalut, Ade Rachmatulloh, Nopia Siti Nurazizah, Riani Novitasari ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://abdimasada.stikesdhb.ac.id/index.php/AM/article/view/133 Fri, 23 May 2025 00:00:00 SE Asia Standard Time PENINGKATAN PENGETAHUAN LANSIA TENTANG HIPERTENSI MELALUI MEDIA POWER POINT DI GKP KATAPANG KABUPATEN BANDUNG https://abdimasada.stikesdhb.ac.id/index.php/AM/article/view/134
Hypertension is a degenerative disease that often occurs in the elderly. The aim of this community service activity is to increase public knowledge by socializing hypertension. The method used in community service is a question and answer lecture and using power point media, community service activities are carried out in Katapang village, the activity time is 1 month, the number of participants is 25 people consisting of elderly people. The implementation of this community service is divided into pre-test stages, providing material, post-test and health checks by checking blood pressure. The results in community service activities are based on analysis of paired t test calculations that there is an effect of providing health education on knowledge before and after health education is carried out with an alpha value of 0.000 (<0.005). This activity aims to diagnose refractive disorders and provide an understanding of the importance of vision examinations to prevent further visual impairment. Data were obtained from refractive examinations conducted on 69 students at Sirnarasa Islamic Boarding School, Ciceuri Hamlet, Ciomas Village, Panjalu District, Ciamis Regency, West Java Province. The results of the examination showed a significant prevalence of refractive disorders, with astigmatism as the most common refractive disorder found (31.18%), followed by myopia (6.52%) and hypermetropia (4.34%). In addition, 40.58% of students were diagnosed with presbyopia, while 5.06% were diagnosed with suspected organic disorders, such as cataracts and amblyopia. These findings highlight the importance of refractive examinations and treatment of refractive disorders at a young age, especially in the context of binocular vision. The results of this activity are expected to provide new insights for related parties in formulating community-based eye health policies to improve the quality of vision of students and prevent long-term impacts of undetected refractive disorders. Binocular balance examination can be performed using the duochrome prism dissociation method, which functions to evaluate the stability of binocular fusion and accommodation-convergence balance. This community service activity was carried out at the Baitul Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, Bandung Regency, with a target examination of 399 students. The purpose of this activity was to detect refractive disorders and evaluate binocular balance using the duochrome prism method in the population of Islamic boarding school students as part of promotive and preventive efforts for visual impairment. The results of the examination showed that refractive disorders were found in 23.5% of male students, while only 1.0% of female students experienced refractive disorders. Refractive disorders were most commonly found in the 12–16 year age group, with a prevalence of 16.0%. The most common type of refractive disorder was myopia (14.3%), followed by astigmatism (10.3%). In addition, the results of the binocular balance examination revealed that 27.8% of students experienced binocular imbalance, which has the potential to affect their visual comfort and learning process. These findings indicate the need for more attention to eye health in the Islamic boarding school environment, especially in conducting regular screening. Providing appropriate optical correction and education on the importance of maintaining eye health are highly recommended, both for students and Islamic boarding school caregivers. The community living in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) often does not have adequate access to eye examination services, even though their learning and worship activities heavily rely on optimal vision function. This community service activity aims to conduct early detection of refractive disorders and vision problems through tentative refractive examinations at Pondok Pesantren Siraajul Ummah, Karangrahayu, Karangbahagia District, Bekasi Regency. The activity was conducted on February 20, 2022, targeting 100 people consisting of students and teachers. The examination included visual acuity screening and subjective refraction using a trial lens set and trial frame. The results showed that 30.5% of participants experienced myopia, 25.0% experienced astigmatism, 10.5% experienced hyperopia, and 42.0% experienced presbyopia. About 4.0% of participants were found to have organic eye disorders such as cataracts and pterygium, which were subsequently referred for further examination. These findings emphasize the importance of regular eye examinations in educational communities based in pesantren. Through this activity, participants not only received examination services but also education regarding the importance of maintaining eye health and the proper use of optical correction.
